Mussolini Make Italy Great Again!

Abstract
figlio del secolo” tratta dall’omonimo romanzo di Antonio Scurati pubblicato da Bompiani nel 2022. Il focus del lavoro è rappresentato dal collegamento costante tra l’epoca del fascismo italiano e la dimensione socio politica attuale del nostro Paese. Come evidenzia lo stesso Scurati, «Lui è come una bestia: sente il tempo che viene. Lo fiuta. E quel che fiuta è un’Italia sfinita, stanca della casta politica, della democrazia in agonia, dei moderati inetti e complici. Allora lui si mette a capo degli irregolari, dei delinquenti, degli incendiari e anche dei “puri”, i più fessi e i più feroci”. Il Benito della serie tv è l’emblema della più grande suggestione di massa mai esistita laddove si intenda quel fenomeno psicologico per cui un’idea, un’aspirazione, si impongono alla coscienza per azione diretta o indiretta di un’altra persona. Una suggestione che, seppure credevamo finita con la fine della seconda guerra mondiale, sembra riprodursi nella classe politica attuale, in quello sguaiato sovranismo che urla Make Italy Great Again.
Abstract
This writing is nothing more than a reflection born from watching the series “M. The son of the century” based on the novel of the same name by Antonio Scurati published by Bompiani in 2022. The focus of the work is represented by that constant connection between the era of Italian fascism and the current socio-political dimension of our country. As Scurati himself highlights, «He is like a beast: he senses the time that is coming. He smells it. And what he smells is an exhausted Italy, tired of the political caste, of democracy in agony, of inept and complicit moderates. So he puts himself at the head of the irregulars, the delinquents, the arsonists and also the “pure”, the most stupid and the most ferocious”. The Benito of the TV series is the emblem of the greatest mass suggestion ever existed where we mean that psychological phenomenon by which an idea, an aspiration, imposes itself on the conscience through the direct or indirect action of another person. A suggestion that, even though we believed it ended with the end of the Second World War, seems to be reproduced in the current political class, in that brazen sovereignism that screams Make Italy Great Again.
